KATE MCMURRAY - President
Kate McMurray is an award-winning romance author and an unabashed romance fan. When she’s not writing, she works as a nonfiction editor, dabbles in various crafts, and is maybe a tiny bit obsessed with baseball. She has served as President of Rainbow Romance Writers and is currently the president of the New York City chapter of RWA. She lives in Brooklyn, NY. LAQUETTE - Vice President
LaQuette is an erotic, multicultural romance author of M/F and M/M love stories. Her writing style brings intellect to the drama. She often crafts emotionally epic, fantastical tales that are deeply pigmented by reality's paintbrush. Her novels are filled with a unique mixture of savvy, sarcastic, brazen, and unapologetically sexy characters who are confident in their right to appear on the page.
This bestselling Erotic Romance Author is the 2016 Author of the Year Golden Apple Award Winner, 2015 Swirl Awards Bronze Winner in Romantic Suspense, and 2015 Georgia Romance Writers Maggie Award Finalist in Erotic Romance. LaQuette—a native of Brooklyn, New York—spends her time catering to her three distinct personalities: Wife, Mother, and Educator.
Writing—her escape from everyday madness—has always been a friend and source of comfort. At the age of sixteen she read her first romance novel and realized the genre was missing something: people that looked and lived like her. As a result, her characters and settings are always designed to provide positive representations of people of color and various marginalized communities.
She loves hearing from readers and discussing the crazy characters that are running around in her head causing so much trouble. Contact her on Facebook, Twitter, @LaQuetteLikes, her website, www.NovelsbyLaQuette.com, Amazon, her Facebook group, LaQuette's Lounge, and via email at LaQuette@NovelsbyLaQuette.com.
STACEY AGDERN - Vice President
Stacey Agdern is an award winning former bookseller who has reviewed romance novels in multiple formats and given talks about various aspects of the romance genre. She is also a romance writer. She’s a proud member of both LIRW and RWA/NYC. She lives in New York, not far from her favorite hockey team’s practice facility. Friend and follow her on Twitter: @nystacey; Facebook: staceyaagdern.
MARIA COX - Treasurer
Maria Cox is a PRO member of Romance Writers of America; she’s also the PRO Liaison for RWA/NYC. Years back Maria served two terms as President of the Phoenix Writers Club. When not writing fiction Maria is a technical writer for a major banking institution, she has worked in the finance industry for over twelve years. Maria has been a member of RWA/NYC for eighteen months.
LISE HORTON - Secretary
I have been a member of RWA/NYC (with a momentary lapse or two) since 2005. Joining after attending the RWA National meeting that was held in NYC, I was drafted by Maria Ferrer to run for the board (coincidentally as Secretary) that very fall, and began board service that included the role of Secretary, VP (Contest), and PRO Liaison. I ultimately served as President, and Past President in 2012 and 2013, respectively. Through the years, I have watched the chapter grow and evolve, just as this fast-paced industry has evolved, even as our genre has expanded and become ever more inclusive and diverse. I grew from a fledgling writer, to one with multiple completed novels and short stories, to published author. Both my business expertise, and most importantly, my craft skills, have been honed by participation in this organization, and in particular this vibrant chapter. I am excited by the opportunity to once again serve the Chapter and its members, to pay forward what others have so generously shared with me, and look forward to another year in 2017 enjoying the energy, and enthusiasm, chapter members engender. I live on Long Island, and am in my 25th year as a legal secretary at an entertainment law firm where, among other specialties, we deal with publishing. I enjoy gardening, and reading and writing outdoors, and snuggling with my rescue kitties. I am a bibliomaniac who reads just about everything - when I am not penning my steamy contemporary and paranormal erotic romance and erotica! I am published in both novel length and short form fiction, by Ravenous Romance, Riverdale Avenue Books, Cleis Press, Carina Press and Loose Id.
